Gaza To Oscar

Gaza To Oscar, directed by Alaa Damo, is a documentary essay on cinema as a strategy of survival and as a vehicle of geopolitical visibility. The documentary operates on two levels: as an intimate portrait of a filmmaker navigating global exposure, and as a structural reflection on festival circuits, awards economies, and the symbolic capital of international recognition.

Damo interweaves observational footage with reflexive commentary on production constraints, restricted mobility, and the infrastructural precarity of filmmaking under siege. The result is a layered account of artistic practice under political pressure. Gaza to Oscar ultimately interrogates representation, cultural circulation, and the ambivalent promise of global acclaim within deeply asymmetrical power structures.
