We Never Left

We Never Left, directed by Loulwa Khoury, is a poignant documentary set against the backdrop of the Lebanese revolution that erupted on October 17, 2019. The film follows three young Lebanese expatriates in New York who, while building lives abroad, remain deeply connected to the uprisings and social struggles in their homeland. Through their collective and individual journeys, it reveals the complex emotional and political duality between Beirut and the diaspora: the enduring love for a country marked by crisis, exile, and unfulfilled hopes for change.

Weaving together protest movements, personal memory, and the experience of living between two worlds, the film captures the intimate realities of a generation shaped by displacement, solidarity, and the persistent hope for a Lebanon free from civil war, political instability, and economic collapse.
